This IAPS co-educational school is situated at Beech Hill, Thorpe and stands in five and a half acres of beautiful grounds close to the city centre. Pupils are prepared for entrance to Langley School at the age of 11+ although some may move on to other schools. In addition to the full time staff there are visiting teachers for piano, brass and wind instruments.
A braod and balanced curriculum includes English, Mathematics, Science, Geography, History, Music, French, German, RE, Art, Information Technology and Design Technology. Altogether there are appropriate elements of academic, aesthetic and spporting education.
The school also has provision for a small number of pupils with Specific Learning Difficulties with a specialist teacher being employed for one-to-one tuition.
The School has its own gymnasium and an outdoor swimming pool which is heated and filtered. Short tennis, soccer and rugby are played in the Autumn Term. In the Spring Term hockey is played, During the Summer there is a choice of athletics, cricket, short tennis and swimming. Orienteering is an extra curricular activity, the School having been Norfolk orienteering champions for the past seven years.
The School minibus enables staff to take pupils to a wide variety of exhibitions and places of educational interest. In addition to this there is annual visit to a PGL multi-activity centre where a variety of adventure and leisure pursuits are enjoyed. There are a number of after school clubs which children may join. Ballet and dance are taught at lunch times.
The principal aim is to provide a sound education within a friendly and yet well structured environment where pupils can discover individual talents and abilities in preparation for the secondary stage of their education.
It is important for young people to grow up in a happy, but disciplined school atmosphere in which they will be encouraged to be well behaved and self reliant and in which their imagination can be stimulated by a carefully planned programme of work and play.
